Thought for the day - Friends

The best way to have friends is to be one, and we can all do that. Fortunately, the rules for being a friend are simple enough for anyone to master.

First, work on your relationship with the Lord every day. The love we need for others comes from Him; and if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we'll have fellowship with one another. And with His love come His joy, peace, and patience.

Second, avoid the use of the word "I." When you're with others, ask about their day, their hobbies, their health, their families, and their burdens.

Third, don't be easily offended. A prudent person overlooks an insult (Proverbs 12:16, NIV). Good friends have thick skins and aren't touchy or easily hurt.

Fourth, be cheerful. No one wants to be around a grumpy, irritable, or depressed spirit. Your mood can lift many hearts during the course of a day. Be friendly!

Fifth, drop everything to help your friend in a time of crisis or emergency. After all, you never know when you'll be on the receiving end.

Cultivate your friendships, and they will come back to bless you.

So, as we enter Advent, let me say Hi and Thanks to all our friends.
