Throw your stones for God

Shared this thought at Youth Chorus the other night so apologies to Chorus members who read this blog for the repetition!

The story of David facing Goliath is very familiar. The little boy who was only used to deliver sandwiches to his older brothers and maybe watch a few sheep, suddenly came forward as the one to fight of the frontline giant of the Philistines. They tried to help him out by giving him Saul's armour but the lad couldn't move. So he went simply with his sling and 5 stones. But that wasn't all he went with. He went forward with the power of God. He said to Goliath:

"You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied." (1 Sam 17:45)

He went in the name of the Lord and triumphed. The lesson for us is simple. No matter how inadequate we may feel for any task put before us, no matter how inequipped we may be, no matter how much we fear failure, if we take the talents God has given us (our five stones if you like) and go forward in the name of the Lord God Almighty, then he will do the rest and use our actions for His glory.

As someone once said, and I think I've quoted from here before:
The greatest ability you can have, is avail-ability.

So this day, make yourself available for God. Pick up your 5 stones, and throw them forward in the name of the Lord. Let him decide what you can or can't do - He made you - He knows best.

Blessings to you all

D
